Through the brush of Abraham Mondría, we contemplate the façade of the impressive Estación del Norte, the main train station in Valencia. Designed in 1906 by the Valencian architect Demetrio Ribes Marco, it was inaugurated on August 8, 1917 with the name of La Compania del Norte Railway Station.
With a characteristic Valencian modernist style, it stands out especially for its monumentality and rich ornamentation, which is an authentic allegory of the Valencian garden: plant motifs, oranges and orange blossoms dot the exterior facades. There is also no shortage of decorative elements alluding to the Northern Railway Company, in charge of its construction, such as the five-pointed stars or the eagle that tops the central body of the building, a symbol of speed.
