Through the brush of Abraham Mondría, we contemplate the façade of the impressive Estación del Norte, the main train station in Valencia. Designed in 1906 by the Valencian architect Demetrio Ribes Marco, it was inaugurated on August 8, 1917 under the name of La Compania del Norte Railway Station.
With a characteristic Valencian modernist style, it stands out especially for its monumentality and rich ornamentation, which is a true allegory of the Valencian orchard: plant motifs, oranges, and orange blossoms dot the exterior facades. There is also no shortage of decorative elements alluding to the Northern Railway Company, in charge of its construction, such as the five-pointed stars or the eagle that finishes off the central body of the building, a symbol of speed.
Inside, various decorative elements such as metal, wood, glass and trencadis are perfectly combined in its magnificent lobby, where colorful mosaics wish those who pass by a good trip in multiple languages.
